Next week I’ll be in Berlin for five whole days.
I’ve been there once before, a long time ago. I am currently making a list of places I might enjoy and my list is quite short. I don’t know if I have any readers from Berlin (?) but at least one or two of you might have been there – I would be really grateful for all types of advice and insight.
(photographs from last weekend)

alltid så underbara inlägg! alltid så ljuvlig!
Amazing pictures!
helena: Tack. Har du varit i Berlin?
Those photos are so pretty. I’ve never seen so many little ducks on ice sheets x
Underbara bilder.
Wow! Never seen anything like that before, amazing!
berlin! i will send you soon a small list of places i liked while we were living there ♥
Wow, these photos are incredible! I’ve been to Berlin a couple of times and honestly, I’d be happy to just wander around for five days! Prenzlauer Berg, where I stayed last time I went, is particularly lovely to walk around and see all the shops, cafés, parks and beautiful houses. If you’re interested in history then the Checkpoint Charlie museum (although beware – the rest of the area is very tourist-y), the Stasi museum and the Jewish museum are all really interesting – the Jewish museum especially is very powerful. Kreuzberg is, I guess, one of the more ‘edgy’ areas of Berlin, but it really is interesting to look around, as are some of the big streets like Friedrichstraße, which runs through part of Kreuzberg, and Unter den Linden if you’re into shopping. The East Side Gallery is probably my real must-see – it is beautiful, and really unique to Berlin. I hope you have a wonderful trip!!
Oh a city I would love to visit but have never been to. Hope you’ll share lots of photographs upon your return!
Hej
Jag bor i Berlin (i fyra månader kanske). Jag vill gärna ge dig några tipps om du vill! (e-mail?)
hi~do you use digital camera too?
Finn: Thank you! I will save this.
Charlotte: Ja! portillonblog (a) gmail.com är min mail, vore hemskt snällt.
soniceagal: I shoot both digital and analog.
I recently wrote an article on my blog that may be of interest to you (if you speak a little French !).
The Bröhan-Museum is one of the places I strongly recommend you visit in Berlin !
Can’t wait to see your updates on this escapade – I’m sure your photographs will be plenty !
Prenzlauer Berg has great breakfast places & cafes, this one was my favourite: http://www.an-einem-sonntag-im-august.blogspot.com/ Very cosy & they had a great breakfast buffet around 2,30€. And this place has the BEST waffles: http://www.kaufdichgluecklich-shop.de/
The flea market in Mauerpark on Sunday is really big and cool. Also check out the Sunday karaoke there, big audience & some great performers among the singers.
Also East Side Gallery, Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain for walking around. If you like clubs, White Trash Fast Food and Lido.
Have fun! Berlin is the greatest place for just wandering around and breathing it all in.
Oh, I’d love to go to Berlin one time! I’ve heard that penzlauerberg is an amazing part of the city to walk around and get a bit of a sense of place. I once saw a Monki television episode with a blogger from Les Mads about places in Berlin, maybe that could get you some insiders tips? http://www.monki.com/Monki_World/Les_Mads_-_A_day_in_Berlin — I hope you have a lots of fun when you go!
The pictures you took are gorgeous, the little ducklings and the light are so nice!
pretty picture!!

Berlin is amazing. I went last year and I’m going again this summer. Be sure to venture into East Berlin. There’s some awesome stuff over there. Google and see when the thrift markets are – I went to two and they had so much good stuff. It’s a big city but don’t be afraid to walk around! I stumbled across some gems but ended up with very tired feet! Check out the natural history museum too. And if you’re a fan of Helmut Newton go to the Helmut Newton Foundation. I went and it was so inspiring!
Forgot to say – I love these photos by the way.
I would like to recommend Berliner Unterwelten underground tours, which take visitors into bunkers. They have a nice historical touch and the tour guides have been very professional, but also give their own opinions.
Thank you for your beautiful and inspiring blog!
Hi!
You have to visit Akazienstrasse/Goltzstrasse in Schöneberg. There are many cute cafés and boutiques, old houses, local lifestyle.
I think that could interest you: http://www.mimi-berlin.de/
It’s an atelier and shop for historical costumes.
Charlottenburg’s castle and it’s park is as well must see, even though it doesn’t fully flourish at this time of the year.
Museum’s and galleries, i would recommend Bröhan-museum (near Schloss Charlottenburg ) full of Jugendstil and Art Nouveau.
Helmut Newton -Sammlung, the museum of photography offers a large selection of Helmut Newton’s portraits. So much charismatic people in the pictures!
If you are interested in surrealism, there is a good exhibition “Surreal Worlds” in Scharf-Gerstenberg Collection.
Then just take a walk in Prenzlauenberg or Kreuzberg, amuse the passers-by. Every part of the city has so different athmosphere.
Oh, here is so much to see, even though I have been living here 1,5 years now, i find something new everyday.
I’m personally very much into contemporary dance and theatre, and in Berlin possibilities to watch performances is overwhelming.
Hope you’ll enjoy your stay,
Liebe Grüsse.
Oh thank you everyone for your responses, they will certainly be helpful.
I’m leaving tomorrow morning!
poetic
oh, i hope it’s not too late to tell you, but you should visit this café: http://www.vux-berlin.com/ a lovely place and really tasty vegan cakes
oh, these pictures are fantastic, looks like a painting! I never have been to Berlin, but I recently read an article about secondhand shops there. if you want I could write you some adresses, let me know!
I wish you a nice trip,
looking forward to your impressions
Love these photos, so nice that pattern that the shapes of the ice create!

I hope, you are enjoying berlin! I live in berlin, prenzlauer berg. My favourite cafe there is ”fraeulein dickes” in stargarder str 60. Beautiful second hand dresses (also many french designers like isabel marant, vanessa bruno…) At soeur in marienburger str 18 (you will love this vintage store!). For the evening, i recommand bar babette at u-bahn station (u5) schillingstr (near alex, in front of kino international).
Dying to go to berlin, but more importantly stockholm! i have a dream of driving over the alps towards prague, then making stops in berlin, copenhagen, malmo and ending in your city…i miss driving and would love to bring this dream into fruition this summer. have an amazing (or hope you had an amazing) time in berlin!
Ah, I can’t wait to see the photos of Berlin
